Nestled on the shore of one of the most pristine lakes you’ve ever seen, Sugar Lake Lodge offers an authentic northern Minnesota resort experience. My husband loved the close access to the golf course, I loved curling up with a book on one of the Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake. One of my favorite things about the resort is the variety of lodging options they offer. Whether you want to stay in a townhouse by the golf course with your family or a cozy room with a jacuzzi in the lodge, there’s something for everyone. The food is delicious and powers you through a day of exploring the resort and the great outdoors. If you don’t like lake swimming, they even have a pool! But definitely take a paddle board out if you can, this lake is so clear and so beautiful! I have stayed at Sugar Lake 3 times and each time have fallen in love with it a little more. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and you can tell it is owned and operated by people who really care about the experience you have. I can’t wait to come back…until next time!

Our stay at this resort was absolutely incredible! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. The grounds are breathtaking—beautifully maintained, peaceful, and truly picture-perfect. Our room was spotless, spacious and had a homey feel to it. The amenities were top-notch, whether we were relaxing by the pool, enjoying delicious meals, swimming in the clearest and cleanest lake I've come across or exploring the surrounding area. Every detail was handled with such care and professionalism—it’s clear the team takes pride in creating an unforgettable guest experience. We left feeling refreshed, pampered, and already planning our next visit. If you’re looking for the perfect place to getaway, this resort is second to none. Highly, highly recommend!

Absolutely beautiful location for our parents 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Three families all able to do their own activities while being able to spend time together throughout the weekend was wonderful. This report has everything you need for all ages of kids and adults. The property was beautiful, well maintained, and the free activities were amazing. Beyond the resort the lake was absolutely stunning- go visit! You won’t regret it! Worth the trip from the Twin Cities!

Every time I go up north, I have the sincere pleasure of staying at Sugar Lake Lodge. I go back time and time again knowing my experience will be just as good as the last. Abby & Tim run the resort with professionalism and integrity. I appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms, the variety of activities provided, access to the lake, quality food, and fair pricing. If you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy the northland, there is no other option than Sugar Lake Lodge.

We spent a week at Sugar Lake Lodge over the July 4th holiday and had the best week! There were 6 families (12 adults, 13 kids) and we rented several of the Golf Villas. We didn't spend much time in the villas because there was so many other activities to do, but they were clean and basic with comfortable beds. Our goal with this trip was finding a location where the adults can gather together while the kids run around and have the quintessential "90's summer" vibe. It was absolutely perfect! The lake was beautiful and we took advantage of the beach/swimming, the kayaks/paddleboards, as well as a pontoon boat ride. The adults loved having golf so close and was having free golf after 7pm made it extra special for some of the older kids. We spent nearly every day along the water and it was fun grabbing an iced coffee, appetizers, and cocktails (the Sugar Lake Sunset was our favorite!) from Otis's. We loved having dinner on the deck at Otis's as well as the "Happiest Hour" on the deck at the Lodge. The golf cart shuttle was a great option for the younger kids, hauling our beach gear, or if there was someone in the group with mobility issues. There was no shortage of fun activities hosted by the staff and we looked forward to getting a text with the day's events (Root Beer floats, Storytime & Chocolate Chip Cookies, Music Trivia, etc). This resort is an absolute must - the most friendly staff at every encounter and truly a unique gem. We will definitely be re-booking for next summer and cannot wait.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about our trip to Sugar Lake Lodge. We had a large group of 6 families (25 people) go over the 4th of July and even with it busy, you felt like you had the place to yourself! Our kids were in heaven getting to bounce from the beach, kayaks, pool, riding their bikes, playing pickleball, and getting ice cream from Otis’s. Watching them have a blast with friends left me with nostalgia from my own childhood and the carefree moments that come with that age. With so much to do for kids, the adults were able to relax and enjoy the prettiest lake I’ve ever seen and drink a few Sugar Lake Sunsets from Otis’s. We shared a complex in the golf villas and were able to bring everyone together for meals, campfires, and lots of laughs. Every staff member we encountered were so helpful and kind; shout out to all the shuttle drivers and Brady doing story time for the kids! Coming from a bed snob, the beds, pillows, and linens were AMAZING….whoever picked those out, thank you! So many memories made for our families and we’re already booking for next year. Only complaint I have is the merch was so good that every person in my family NEEDED a sweatshirt and t-shirt to go home with. Thank you to Tim and Abby for creating a lodge that feels welcoming, safe, fun and a little piece of paradise. My soul feels refreshed!

I am writing to share my appreciation for Sugar Lake Lodge. I have been visiting for years with both my family and golf buddies, and I have never been disappointed. The entire experience, from check-in at the front desk to checking out of our cabin, is consistently fantastic. The service, lodging, family amenities, activities, and golf course are all top-notch. Our annual trip to Sugar Lake Lodge is truly the highlight of our family's summer. Thank you for maintaining such a wonderful resort. Matt

Sugar Lake Lodge is truly one of the gems in our local community. Not only is it a beautiful facility with incredible views, amazing food, and friendly staff, Abby and Tim also make it a priority to give back to the community. I recently brought my local Adventure Club out to the resort for a beach day. It was a Sunday and the weather was less than ideal, but my group had the best time. In fact, one of the ladies said, “if perfect was a place, this would be the definition!” I cannot say enough about how special this place is. So, you should probably book a stay and find out for yourself!
